The rules for provider travel

The new NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026-27 sets the price limits but not the claiming rules. The NDIA says updated guidance is coming; until then the latest published rules are in the Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits 2025-26. You can claim travel when:

  • the support item allows provider travel (the calculator only lists items that do);
  • the travel is part of delivering a face-to-face support to that participant;
  • the participant agreed to the travel costs in advance, ideally in your service agreement;
  • you pay the worker for the travel time, or you are a sole trader travelling from your usual place of work to or from the participant, or between participants.
AreaTravel time you can claim
MMM 1–3Up to 30 minutes
MMM 4–5Up to 60 minutes
MMM 6–7No time limit; agree the arrangement with the participant

Travel time is charged at the hourly price you agreed for the support, or lower. Therapy supports use a separate travel item (ending in _PT) with a limit of half the direct service limit. The calculator applies the time limit to each trip, to the participant and back.

Kilometres, tolls and parking

The NDIA considers up to $0.99 a kilometre reasonable for a vehicle owned by you or your worker, and tolls, parking and public transport up to the full amount. Claim these on a separate line with the “Provider travel – non-labour costs” item for the same support group, only for trips where travel time can be claimed. If one trip serves several participants, split the cost between them as agreed.

Putting travel on the invoice

Claim travel time on its own line with the same support item and the “Provider travel” claim type, separate from the support itself. The button under the result opens the invoice generator with that line filled in.

Questions

How do I find the MMM area?

Use the Health Workforce Locator map on health.gov.au. The area is where the support is delivered, not where the participant lives. Some isolated towns are reclassified as remote or very remote in Part 3 of the Pricing Schedule.

Can I claim travel back home after the last participant?

For core and capacity building supports, return travel from the last participant can be claimed if you have to pay the worker for it, within the same time limit. Sole traders can claim travel to or from their usual place of work.

Can I claim travel for every support?

No. Only items marked for provider travel in the NDIS Support Catalogue, and not for supports that already include travel in their price.
